Every task here spans multiple classes, and most of the building happens in those classes rather than at your kitchen table — that is deliberate, because the periods are where I can watch the work happen and talk to you about it. Each task page lists its success criteria before you start, phrased as things an observer could see in your work. How Marks Work explains what becomes a mark and what does not, and every criteria table traces back to our Learning Goals.
The six tasks
- The Algorithm Field Guide — document three real algorithms from your life the way a naturalist would, then design a new one precise enough for a classmate to execute.
- The Device Recommendation — interview somebody who needs a machine, turn what they do into requirements, and recommend one thing you can defend to them.
- The Quiz Machine — build a Python quiz program on a topic you care about, then hand it to a play-tester and face the feedback.
- The Remix Project — take a working program from the Programs folder and make it do something meaningfully new.
- The Innovation Brief — investigate one current or emerging innovation and report who benefits, who bears the costs, and what question is still open.
- Launch Day — the culminating task: a computational artifact built for a real user, launched, defended, and documented for reuse.
