The final reflection is the last piece of writing in this course: one sustained look across your whole Dev Journal, written in the final week. Every other entry looked at a single day. This one reads the entire record and answers the only question a course can really be measured by: what do you leave with that you did not arrive with? Nothing in it is marked — see How Marks Work — which is the whole reason it is worth writing straight.
Before you write
Reread your journal front to back in one sitting — expect the your earliest entries to feel written by someone else. As you read, flag:
- one entry that embarrasses you a little — that is usually where the growth is buried
- one “what I would try next” that you actually tried, and what happened
- one bug that taught you more than any working program did
The shape
Three sections, roughly a page, built the way Showing Growth taught — date it, quote your own words, then show the now:
- How my building changed. The biggest difference between what the you who started this course and now-you can make, proven with two cited entries — from a first program that crashed on a capital letter to whatever you stood behind on Launch Day.
- How my thinking about technology changed. The other axis, just as real: what you now notice about your data trail, about bias in the systems around you, about headlines that once washed past. Quote your first entry’s “where I stand with computers” honestly — it is the baseline.
- Where this goes next. The habits are only real once they have an address outside this room: a course you might take, a trade or field where these skills already live, a thing you want to build on your own — and a first step from where to keep learning that you could actually take this summer.
Do not write it as a thank-you card
The temptation is to perform gratitude and round everything up. Resist it. The reflections worth reading include the concept that never clicked, the project that shipped broken, the bug that won. You have a course’s worth of evidence that honesty is what makes this writing good. Trust it one last time.
